Judging The Five South Poetry Prize: Darren Demaree

The Five South Prize in Poetry celebrates both emerging and established talent. This year's prize is judged by poet Darren Demaree whose popular piece, Emily As I Prepare the Meal-Kit Pork Carnitas Bowl was featured in Issue One of Five South.

Darren C. Demaree is the author of fifteen poetry collections, most recently “Burning It Down”, (December 2020, 8th House Publishing). He is the recipient of a 2018 Ohio Arts Council Individual Excellence Award, the Louis Bogan Award from Trio House Press, and the Nancy Dew Taylor Award from Emrys Journal.He is the Editor-in-Chief of the Best of the Net Anthology and the Managing Editor of Ovenbird Poetry. He is currently living in Columbus, Ohio with his wife and children.

Submissions open on April 12, 2021 and will close on June 14th, 2021. We are excited to present an award of $250 to one first prize winner and honorable mention to two finalists. Darren will be choosing the winner and finalists out of a short list provided by Five South. Both the winner and finalists will be published in our forthcoming Volume One Poetry print anthology scheduled for release in early 2022.
